Over here, I found out two new varieties of dosa. I mean, they were always there, but I hadn’t yet come across them, till this morning. These two varieties are called the Set Dosa and the Cut Dosa. There’s not much difference between the two, the reason which makes me question the prudence of having two different names for the same stuff. And these dosas vaguely remind me of something that we have back home. It’s called the Chakuli Pitha, made of the same ingredients, having the same looks and tasting the same way, well almost.
This is a pic of what they call a Set Dosa.
And this is what is referred to as a Cut Dosa.

Oh, I suddenly have this urge to ruch back home and gobble down home made Chakulis…
Ah! It’s difficult sitting at office with the taste buds aroused. I’m salivating like a rabid dog and a teething infant. Anybody have some pithas over here??

Oh yeah, ChakuLi Pitha … the long lost Oriya brother of dosa and uttapam. They all came from the same family, may be born to the same mother, its almost like ‘lost-in-kumbh-mela’ (heck, why kumbh-mela, most likely in bali jatra) storyline… the southern brethern grew up in affluent, rich neighborhood, travelled worldwide and went places, while the oriya guy got left behind, and still known locally as poor chakuLi. It still carries the same birthmarks, sometimes characteristics of other brothers (when it garnishes itself with vegetables and spices, you might mistake it to be Uttapam). The modern fashionable world has given many looks to dosa, homely Rava, naughty Masala, compact Set, traditional Mysore, raunchy onion and even panjabi Paneer! And wait till you hear the spanish outwear ‘Cheese-spinach Quesedosa’! Poor ChakuLi, even the bong neighbors were never even aware of its existence. And why will it be? When its own people feel it is uncool to ask for ChakuLi in a restaurant, but its supercool to ask for dosa in a 5-star hotel!
People of Orissa might have ignored ChakuLi, but ChakuLi has never let people down, it has dedicated its life to the service of its society that raised him till date, and will continue serving, along with Chhenapoda …. oh wait, did I tell you similar story of Chhenapoda?
Yanna rascala! Why did you upload pics
I actually prefer Rawa Dosa, Palak Paneer Dosa, Press Dosa. However, the chutney is a must with any kind.
