Well, last night I got the highest number of hits on my blog in a single day… 872, the figures said. I was no doubt elated, only elated mind you, not mad with delight or anything else. But nevertheless, I flattered myself on my growing popularity in the blog world and indulged in a bit of celebration. And then the truth dawned, or rather thrust itself right into my face.

The stats showed that a single post had received 544 hits and had been searched for 500 times. And this post was about the ‘Ten Little Niggers’. When I tracked back and went a little distance into the alley of the URLs, I found that something had happened in West Chester, Ohio which had so generously contributed to my readership. The news was not very pleasant, and not that simple either. It can be read about here.

Well, I’m not very sure, if it’s the right thing to have been done, but it sure does sound a bit harsh considering the novel in its right. That the said poem happened to be published within the novel, shouldn’t have deterred the authorities from the staging of the play. But the one thing I’m really confused about is whether all those visitors really wanted to have a look at the poem in my post or was it that they wanted something else. ‘Ten Little Niggers’ and ‘Ten Little Indians’ are quite different in all aspects. But as long as they come in, I’m always open. Please come right in and bring in your friends and relatives too… no dearth of space here.
