It had always been on my mind to make a film (please don’t laugh… it ain’t that funny), a movie like they show on the television. I didn’t want my production to be a documentary, for, educating people or creating awareness was never my intention. Documentaries are more appropriate for film makers who want to make this world a better place to live in by changing the lives of people around them. Though noble, this is not what I wanted my movie to be.
My movie (if it ever got down to be actually made) would be the drama type… not quite mainstream but neither way off. It’d be about stuff that most people can’t relate to and would either dismiss it as insanity or uncreativity. But then, I’d never want my movie to cater to the needs of the masses. It’d be made for the selected few. The fortunate elite!
And yesterday night, finally the dream was realised. Neither in full measure nor satisfyingly, but at least it was a start. And not too disappointing. I wonder how the audience reacts. With a 2 man crew, a single camera, almost no props and with a laughable budget we shot our first movie. The credits don’t roll out in our movie, because, well… there’s no one to credit for.
Coming to the movie, its a short film actually lasting I’m not sure how many minutes. It’s a psycho-tragi-comedy if you can classify it so. And it’s raw, rude and reeks of reekiness. Ha! I can’t say anything else as that would spoil the actual thrill of watching it. The camera is more or less steady and the neighbour’s dog fortunately remains silent throughout the movie. We sure were lucky!
There are no actors who can take the credits, no screenplay, no music, no dialogues, no special effects, no director, no makeup, nothing… not even nothing. All we had was a small camera (the new Nokia N73) which we hope has served us well and two fools doing what else, other than just fooling around! And somehow the movie was shot in less than 5 minutes, that too without a retake, a cut or any other mishap. Less than 5 minutes… can you believe it? And we hadn’t even rehearsed for it. Well, we haven’t as of yet got down to discussing it and am sure it’s full of flaws, technically and otherwise. But it just gives a great feeling to know that finally something has been made, even if not worthwhile. I’ll post it the next time around so that you may shout out your praises directly to me.
